I started designing mechanical optical units with this one, a beam splitter uinit for Mount Zu, a movie by Tsui Hark.

At that time, Panavision did not have a built in video assist that have a genlock signal, so we built this and call it the Stop motion rig for joining sequences that stopped in the middle due to difficult choreography by wires and stunts. We recorded the segments in black and white genlock video on 3/4-in u-matic machines.
